After being awarded $300,000 from the Google Impact Challenge, RefugeeRISE AmeriCorps will be able to connect more refugees and immigrants to jobs and work-readiness training while building the leadership of 70 diverse AmeriCorps members in rural and urban locations across the state.
Members like Jeanette, a Burundian-American and former refugee, giving back to the community as a workforce navigator at IowaWORKS; or Jazmyn, who dreams of starting her own non-profit, empowering youth through tutoring and career exploration at Genesis Youth Foundation. Jeanette and Jazmyn represent a new generation of leaders who are building skills while serving their community.
Equipping people with the skills necessary for success in a new country is critical to creating diverse and vibrant communities. EMBARC’s RefugeeRISE AmeriCorps program is providing new Iowans with the tools they need to access job and skill building opportunities as well as filling critical workforce shortages across Iowa.
