This giving Tuesday,
Help us provide more than just education.
Every donation you make will help us get to our goal of providing more citizenship classes for our communities from Burma.
Now more than ever, our community is passionate for the opportunity to apply for and obtain their citizenship - helping them take the next step in their civic engagement journey. Many families live with fear and uncertainty born from years of statelessness and life in refugee camps. They now call Iowa home, however are unable to gain the citizenship status that would give them the next step towards stability.
Money and resources can be an insurmountable barrier. Federal applications fees are a baseline cost with legal fees adding an extra layer. Without legal representation, clients risk filling out forms incorrectly or getting lost in post application delays and confusing follow-up.
On top of financial barriers are language and resource navigation struggles. Imagine learning over 120 civics questions in your second language and answering questions about your life - even though you may not have been able to read English letters so remembering things like addresses is even more difficult.
EMBARC's Citizenship classes take on all of this, teaching students with a topic expert and a native language co-teacher to navigate cultural and language barriers. Staff connect students with legal experts and walk them through the daunting process to build confidence and trust in their own abilities to succeed in their journey towards becoming a citizen.
And you can help us to make this dream a reality. Each EMBARC citizenship class is 10 weeks of training and prep to ensure clients succeed. Additional support can help clients with the added financial barriers.
